Good-bye

Most people's lives are made up of a series of definining moments, events that shape or change their lives forever. My life, on the other hand, seems like it's made up of a series of good-byes.

When I was 18, I married a soldier. I said good-bye to my family, my home and my friends.

When I was 21, I said good-bye to my grandmother. She shaped my personality in a way that no one had before and no one will again.

When I was 26, I said good-bye to my husband when he left for the war. There's no way to even begin to describe the feeling of kissing someone you love good-bye and not knowing if you'll see them alive again.

Last weekend, I had to say good-bye to Annie. If you've never been attached to a pet, you might not understand the role they play in your life. That dog was with us as long as Jessica could remember. She kept me company while my husband was off in Korea, Kentucky, Louisiana and Iraq. She was usually the first one I talked to in the morning and the last one I talked to at night.

Annie had been sick for a while and I knew that eventually, I was going to have to let her go. It was an agonizing decision but I knew that I couldn't let her get to the point where she felt any pain. I took her to the vet and I was there with her as she drifted out of this world.

Annie taught me one final lesson...how self-less love can actually be. I know that I made the right decision for her, no matter how hard it was on me.

Happy Mother's Day

Hi all. Hope everyone had a happy Mother's Day.

Jessica went and visited the middle school last week. Can you believe they go to middle school in the 4th grade here? She was kind of apprehensive about it but she said the school looks "really cool" and the teachers were nice. They have lockers and get to decorate them so she's very excited about that...LOL.

Our receptionist quit last week and my friend was out until Thursday so I was extremely busy for a few days. My friend came back from her month-long vacation though and announced that she's looking for a job on post. Ugh! If she leaves, I'll get another promotion. It'll mean more money (hourly and bonuses) but the position is a lot more stressful. I'll take it because it'll look great on my resume but I won't be thrilled about it for sure!

Friday and Saturday Jessica and I did quite a bit of shopping. She got some new tennies and a couple of new outfits. I'm going to be a "hostess" at my boss's wedding at the end of the month so I had to find an outfit that was the same color as her bridesmaids' dresses. Ever tried to find a perkiwinkle dress? I finally found a suit in Macy's and some really cute shoes but now I need to find a gift. :::groan:::

Last night we tried going out to dinner but apparently it was prom night in E-town. We wound up at Denny's because we couldn't get in anywhere else. Not our first choice by far by my burger was really good so it didn't turn out too badly after all...LOL.

Today we lounged around, cleaned the house and worked on Jon's math homework. He's scrambling to finish his homework and tests because his class ends on Friday. I helped him finish most everything up online and he'll take his final sometime this week. We'll both be extremely relieved when this one's over.

I'm going to go soak in the tub and head to bed. Have a good week and I'll TTYS!

Monday Night

Has it really been 3 weeks since my last blog? Ouch! Sorry about that!

Let's see...what have we been up to? The Friday before Easter I got some rims put on my new ride. Had to have a little bling, or as my boss said today, some "bling-tivity." There's a new one for ya...LOL!

On Easter we had friends over for dinner. My friend brought a ham and I made the other half of a beef tenderloin that I had in the freezer from Christmas. Everything came out really good. After dinner we watched Just Friends which was kinda silly but definitely funny.

Our regular loan processor at work went on vacation for 3 weeks. I have been swamped doing my job and hers. I'll get some bonus money out of it but I'll definitely be ready for her to return to work...LOL.

Last week Jessica had her annual spring program at school. The theme was "Dancing With the Stars." They did line dances, square dancing, the Electric Slide and the Macarana. They also sang a couple of songs. It was pretty cute and some parts were hilarious!

Jon took a three-day pass this weekend. On Saturday night we went up to Thunder Over Louisville. Every time we've gone in the past, it's been cold and raining so the crowds haven't been that bad. This year the weather was GORGEOUS and they had almost 800,000 people show up. (No, that's not a typo!) It was an absolute mob scene. The fireworks were over at 10:00 and we got home around 1:30 in the morning. Between almost getting trambled by the crowds, spending an hour waiting to get out of the parking garage and taking a scenic tour of the west end (AKA the GHETTO) we were more than happy to see post again...LOL!

Sunday we headed back to Louisville. We stopped at the mall and went to the zoo. When we came home we walked the dogs and got the lawn mowed which was good since tomorrow we have a 90% chance of thunderstorms.

Well, Jon just walked in. Since it's 11:00 p.m. I guess I'd better chat with him for a few and head to bed. Have a great week and I'll TTYS! :o)

Tuesday Morning

Hi all, how's it going? Sorry it's been so long since I've posted.

Last week, Jon and I decided to get a new car. We bought a 2006 Mistubishi Eclipse GT. I've wanted an Eclipse for literally as long as I can remember so I'm ecstatic. It has a 3.8L Miovec engine, a 5-speed sportronic transmission, power everything, climate control, heated leather seats, a 6 disc in-dash CD changer, Rockford-Fosgate sound system, etc. It is sweet!

Jessica was on spring break last week. She went to the KY Derby Museum and went bowling with her daycare program. Jon was off for part of the week so she got to stay home and spend some time with him too.

Work has been nuts lately. There are a couple of new loan officers and a LOT of drama. Yesterday my boss treated the processor and me to lunch and a trip to the nail shop. She said we deserved some pampering for all of the crap we've put up with lately...LOL. I also processed 3 loans for the Lexington office. I get $100 bonus for each loan that I process so that'll be a nice little extra chunk of change in my next paycheck. :o)

Jon picks up another group of privates on Friday. They weren't supposed to pick up but now the battalion says that they are. Out of a possible 220 privates, they're picking up about 70, just like last time. It's a complete waste but the batallion doesn't get paid unless they're in cycle. What a crock!

Well, I'd better go finish getting ready for work. Enjoy the rest of your week and I'll TTYS!

Monday Morning

Well, it's Monday morning again. Last week was a loooong one!

Jessica wasn't feeling well last Monday so I picked her up early from school. All last week, she had a fever on and off. This weekend we brought her in to the ER and after 6+ hours, they finally diagnosed her with a UTI which really surprised me since she had no symptoms and no pain. Yesterday we ended up going back to the ER for another hour and a half because they didn't give us enough antibiotic the first time. Ugh!

She's doing better today. We had to struggle with her to keep her from spitting the medicine back up but now that she's taking it, the fever is gone. She went to school today and hopefully she'll be able to stay there!

The weather is horrible here this week. It is FREEZING and in some of the towns nearby, it's SNOWING. Isn't it SPRING? LOL!

Jon's privates will graduate this Friday so hopefully, he'll have a couple of weekends off before he starts all over again. No idea what our plans are but I'm sure we'll find something to do.

Well, I just wanted to give everyone a quick update. I'd better get back to work. Have a great week and I'll TTYS! :o)

Better Late Than Never...

OK, so I'm a little later than I said I'd be in posting our ball picture. See title above...LOL!

The ball was about average. The hotel was NO WHERE near as nice as the price tag would indicate. I'd heard rave reviews about the Galt House but I wasn't impressed. When we got there, they didn't have the room that we'd paid for. I argued with them and they "found" a room like I'd requested. Unfortunately, it was conveniently located in the lobby facing so we heard the elevators, the guests, the luggage carts, the drunks, etc. After the ball, we went down to a couple of the bars downtown. That was a lot of fun so it made up for everything else!

Anyway, here is one of the pics that we took with the digital camera. Our professional photos won't be back for a couple of weeks but this one didn't come out too bad.

Last weekend, I went shopping. I found NOTHING as far as spring work clothes go. I need to make a trip up to Louisville this weekend because they are SO not going to be happy with me if I start showing up to work nekkid when the weather gets nice...LOL!

Saturday night we went bowling with friends. I have my own ball but it's way too heavy now that I'm not so heavy myself. I bowled with one of the alley's 11-pound balls and I won all 3 games, which was great since I bowled AWFUL the last few times we'd gone before that. I guess I need a new bowling ball sometime soon. Sunday Jon had 24-hour duty and I loafed around the house most of the day which was great to say the least!

This weekend is supposed to be beautiful. Hopefully we'll BBQ or do something else outdoors. It's too early to stay warm but a little spring fever never hurt anyone...lol.

Well, I'd better get going. I want to catch the premier of Sons and Daughters and the new episode of Real World. TTFN! :o)

President's Day

I know it's been almost 3 weeks. Go ahead and yell at me...I deserve it!

I'm sad to say that a couple of weeks ago, Jon had a death in the family. You may remember me mentioning his step-mother Susan. Susan had a massive heart attack and passed away at the age of 49. She was a very caring and sweet lady who will be greatly missed, especially by Jessica who considered her a grandmother.

On a slightly happier note, we had a nice weekend last weekend. Jon was off on Sunday so we celebrated his birthday and Valentine's Day by going up to Louisville. We did a little shopping and ate a Carraba's. We haven't had the time for that in quite a while.

It has been FRIGID around here lately. We've had snow two or three times over the past couple of weeks and Saturday, the temperatures got down into the teens. Isn't this supposed to be KY? I know to "y'all deep southerners" this is still Yankee country but I'm from NY. This IS the south to me and in my book, south = warmth. LOL!

Jon has been busy with the new cycle. Actually, it's been one mess after another and it's amazing that he's still sane. Next weekend he'll have the whole weekend off for the ball though...if you can consider attending a "strongly recommended military function" off that is. Ok, so I'm feeling a bit sarcastic today...hehehe!

I spent most of this weekend trying to update my graphics site and put a few new things up there. It has been so long since I've sat down and done that. There have been plenty of times where I've been tempted just to shut my sites down for lack of time but I'm not ready to give them up just yet!

This week is going to be a busy one as usual. Next weekend we'll be out of the loop and then March will be right around the corner. Ack!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I'm not promising anything (LOL!) but I'll try to get back at the begining of next week with some pics for you! TTFN! :o)
